GLUTTONY – uncontrolled obsession with satisfying physical appetites
Big idea: GLUTTONY must be identified and destroyed
Be willing to look at yourself... Your faith in Jesus matters, once your life is over here on earth, its then too late.
* What does GLUTTONY look like?
We enjoy life and what it has to offer, but God didn’t mean for us to enjoy over a limitation to what our body can handle! Gluttony is a fixation to what is seen and that it has to be had. Food is good! God created food for our sustenance. But it wasn’t meant for over indulgence and “everyday ain’t your birthday.” Don’t not allow food, drink, etc to be as a fixations. God has bestowed upon us so much, bread, wine, food but it wasn’t meant to be worshipped or used EVERYDAY in excess! We have to be careful what we keep in our homes. I might have control right this moment, but I can’t predict later part of each and everyday. Our hearts are deceptive and wicked. Be watchful. We can’t handle our appetites. Focus on God and what is WISE for you and your body. Gluttony is an attitude and ignoring those around us.
* Why is GLUTTONY so dangerous?
A person can be so obsessed with physical appetite they neglect their spiritual need. Gluttony destroys the temple (your body) of God. Your house of God is the body you carry around. If you don’t do sons at church, why would you carry this throughout your day? God dwells here in our body, our temple, would you aid in destroying His? Self control is apart of being able…. gluttony destroys your appetite for God. (Matthew 5:6). Gluttony destroys our usefulness through God. There are
Ramifications, it can skew and harm my body and destroy my relationship with God and I focus on temporary instead of fulfilling life long for the glory of God. God can bless us and we should be willing to open it up to others. God blesses us to bless others.
* How can I destroy GLUTTONY?
Destroying gluttony isn’t easy, those appetites can be strong. We can lose focus and choose to see what we see by sight or use our spiritual eyes. Stay HUNGRY FOR GOD! God satisfies, stay hungry through Him! In the “heat” of the moment, it’s all good and wonderful and you feel great, but how did or will you feel later!? Listen to the small voice …. don’t allow gluttony to push you where you don’t want to be…. our appetites are so weak! Stay filled with the spirit… keep yourself full of righteousness and leave the gluttony to the side. Don’t over-do what your body DOESN’T NEED! Bring God the glory! Stay disciplined in the flesh. Step up and do the right thing! It’s not going to be easy, but pray over this everyday, moment by moment, embrace the struggle THROUGH Christ!
Find the fruit of the spirit – self-control! You can do this by keeping with Christ through you and in you. We all struggle with seven deadly sins! Pray for each other!
